Kristian Alexandrov’s F.U.J.A. ft Shannon Gaye

Kristian Alexandrov – keyboards
Shannon Gaye – vocal, percussion

With roots in Sofia’s vibrant music scene, Kristian Alexandrov has forged a remarkable journey from child virtuoso to globally recognized jazz artist. Since relocating to Canada in 1995, he has emerged as a triple-threat artist – equally formidable as pianist, composer, and producer. His collaborations read like a who’s who of contemporary jazz, having shared stages with Randy Brecker, K.D. Lang, and Alain Caron, while serving as musical director for trumpet virtuoso Jens Lindemann.

Shannon Gaye commands attention as one of Canada’s most distinctive vocal talents. The singer-songwriter-percussionist has cultivated a signature sound that marries old-school soul authenticity with contemporary R&B and hip-hop inflections. Her six independently released albums showcase a rare lyrical depth, with several compositions finding their way into film and television productions across North America and the UK.

For their Bansko Jazz Festival showcase, this dynamic duo will unveil new material that crystallizes their decade-long creative partnership. Kristian’s F.U.J.A. (Funked Up Jazz Ambassadors) will deliver their trademark fusion of Afro-Cuban polyrhythms, Balkan melodic sensibility, and unapologetic funk energy, while Shannon will present soul-stirring vocals that traverse from whisper-intimate to roof-raising crescendos. Their performance promises to be both a homecoming for Kristian and a revelation for Bulgarian audiences – a masterclass in how musical roots can span continents while retaining their essential authenticity.
