A New Voice in Brazilian Jazz
HII Trio represents a vibrant new generation of Brazilian jazz. Formed by pianist Henrique Mota, bassist Iury Batista and drummer Igor Willcox, the ensemble blends contemporary jazz with the richness of Brazilian music, elements of classical music and influences from around the globe.
Their debut album, Connections (2025), attracted international attention through collaborations with celebrated artists including Bob Mintzer, Tony Lakatos, Seamus Blake, David Binney, Bob Franceschini and Rachel Therrien. Conceived as a celebration of artistic exchange and cultural dialogue, the album was selected among the best jazz releases of the year by the French publication Couleurs Jazz.
In 2025, HII Trio received the prestigious Prêmio da Música Instrumental award and completed a successful tour of China, performing fifteen concerts in eight cities, including appearances at Blue Note Shanghai and Blue Note Beijing.
Each member brings extensive international experience to the group. Henrique Mota has emerged as one of Brazil’s most promising pianists and composers, Iury Batista is recognized as one of the leading bassists of his generation, while Igor Willcox is already familiar to Bansko audiences through his own quartet and numerous international projects.
Sophisticated yet accessible, rooted in tradition yet forward-looking, HII Trio offers a compelling vision of contemporary Brazilian jazz—full of creativity, energy and musical connection.
