Eastern passage

The Doykin & Karparov Quartet was formed in 2017, by longtime friends and musical partners, originally meant for a series of performances in Berlin, Germany. The quartet’s music combines Bulgarian rhythms and melodies with jazz traditions. In the spring of 2024, the quartet recorded its debut album, which will be released later this year.

Pianist Asen Doykin has been a part of the New York jazz scene for 25 years. An extremely versatile pianist, he has worked with some of the most prominent jazz musicians from New York and around the world such as Pino Paladino, Joe Locke, Keith Carlock, Tim Lefebvre, Bennie Maupin, Kendrick Scott and the like. He has played on some of New York’s acclaimed large and small venues. Asen Doykin has released three albums and has composed, arranged and produced music for film, television, radio and theater. The Bulgarian pianist is a distinguished jazz educator in the United States.

Vladimir Karparov‘s music is exclusive and expressive. It is a successful synthesis between contemporary jazz and the melodic color of Bulgarian folk music. An inspired musician and composer himself, he crosses genre boundaries and has released many successful albums of his own. In 2020 he received an award from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria for promoting Bulgarian culture worldwide.
