Tribute to Coltrane
Two generations of jazz tradition and innovation come together in a special project dedicated to one of the most influential figures in music history—John Coltrane. In Tribute to Coltrane, saxophonist Chico Freeman and pianist Antonio Faraò celebrate the legendary innovator’s legacy through personal interpretations of his timeless compositions, alongside original works inspired by his spirit and vision.
For decades, Chico Freeman has been an important creative force in American jazz. The son of renowned saxophonist Von Freeman, he emerged from Chicago’s legendary AACM movement and has collaborated with artists including Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Charles Mingus, Art Blakey, Sun Ra, Sting, Chucho Valdés, Celia Cruz and Earth, Wind & Fire.
Italian pianist Antonio Faraò has earned worldwide recognition through collaborations with Joe Lovano, Marcus Miller, Benny Golson, Biréli Lagrène and Jack DeJohnette. Since 2023, he has been a member of the McCoy Tyner Legends project, celebrating the legacy of one of jazz’s greatest pianists.
Joining them are acclaimed bassist Aldo Vigorito and renowned drummer Gerald Cleaver, creating a quartet that balances deep respect for tradition with the freedom and spontaneity of contemporary improvisation.
More than a tribute concert, Tribute to Coltrane is a living dialogue between generations—a celebration of Coltrane’s enduring influence through the voices of remarkable musicians of today.
