BILLY COBHAM’S TIME MACHINE

To call Billy Cobham a legend would be an understatement. His name stands at the very foundation of jazz fusion history. Few musicians have had such a profound impact on the development of contemporary music. A drummer, composer and bandleader, Cobham has been part of some of the most significant musical events of the past half century.
Born in Panama and raised in New York, he began his professional career at an early age. His remarkable journey includes collaborations with Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, George Benson, Carlos Santana, Stanley Turrentine and countless other giants of modern music. As a member of the legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra, he helped create some of the most influential recordings in jazz fusion history. His 1973 debut album Spectrum remains a landmark of the genre.
Over a career spanning more than six decades, Billy Cobham has released over thirty albums as a leader, received numerous international accolades and inspired generations of musicians around the world.
At Bansko Jazz Festival, he presents Time Machine, a musical journey through different chapters of his artistic life. The project revisits compositions from the iconic Billy Cobham Band period while introducing new music inspired by the album Total Eclipse. Cobham himself describes Time Machine as a meeting point between the past, present and future of his musical universe.
On 31 July, Bansko Jazz Festival will open with one of the greatest drummers in jazz history—an evening promising extraordinary energy, masterful musicianship and unforgettable music.
