Avishai Cohen – Big Vicious

Over the past two decades, Avishai Cohen has carved out a unique place in contemporary music—a space where jazz continually encounters new ideas, sounds and artistic perspectives. A trumpeter, composer and bandleader with a distinctive voice, he belongs to the generation of musicians that expanded the possibilities of jazz in the 21st century.
With Big Vicious, Cohen embarked on one of the most adventurous projects of his career. Originally formed as an informal collective of friends and collaborators, the ensemble gradually evolved into a fully independent artistic entity with its own unmistakable sound and aesthetic. Within their music, jazz exists alongside rock, electronica, psychedelia, ambient textures and free improvisation, while traditional genre boundaries fade away.
Released by the legendary ECM label in 2020, the self-titled album Big Vicious attracted attention far beyond the traditional jazz audience. Rather than following established models, the group creates hypnotic sonic landscapes where groove, electronic textures and collective interaction are equally important.
A recipient of numerous international awards and one of ECM’s leading artists, Avishai Cohen continues to explore new musical directions. That restless creative spirit lies at the heart of Big Vicious.
Their performance in Bansko is an invitation to venture beyond stylistic definitions—a journey through music that challenges, captivates and leaves a lasting impression.
